How To Be Positive

What is positivity?

Being positive is a decision to focus on the value of all people, circumstances and situations, while removing anything that’s of no use to you.

Being positive doesn’t mean that you can’t have negative thoughts or be negative from time to time, that would be impossible (especially nowadays). But the point is that you have to be self-aware, and make sure when you’re willing to engage in negativity. Never allow yourself to be consumed by it.

This is something that can be very hard because of the Internet. Just go on Twitter and depending on whom you are following you’ll see some negative shit, guaranteed.

If you are always prepared to see something like that good, if not then it can be become a problem since the negativity is creeping up on your mind, consciously or subconsciously, so it’s good to take an Internet break every once in a while and indulge in something that is fun and positive.

What Positivity isn’t!

Being positive does not mean to become this overly positive guy, who is always happy and hyped up about everything, I bet you know a few people who are like that.

That’s fake, unreal and annoying as hell. That is forced positivity and I’m not sure, but I don’t think it’s healthy either.

Positivity does not mean to ignore the facts and truths of life. In fact being realistic is a huge part of staying positive, otherwise you are just fooling yourself.

Not seeing things as how they are means that you are running away from the truth, because you find it uncomfortable or it might hurt your “feelings”.

That’s weak, face reality head on, and see things for how they are, accept them and adapt accordingly.

What is negativity?

People tend to say that negativity is something bad or destructive and they do have a point, but negativity is not always something bad, it can be very useful at times.

Dealing with negativity can be good for you, because it keeps you grounded. When difficult situations arise they don’t overwhelm you, and you’re able to withstand and use this as a tool to grow stronger.

But there is a problem that comes with indulging in negativity.

Indulging in negative emotions

Our minds are able and very good at adapting to whatever emotional state (positive or negative) we’re in. This can become an issue tho, if you are accustomed to a very negative state of mind then it becomes ingrained and addictive over time.

It can happen in an instant, especially on the Internet. Thanks to all the Clickbait titles and short attention span it became even easier to be consumed and sucked in by this vortex of negativity.

For example you’re browsing YouTube and click on a video that talks about the migrant crisis. I guarantee you, you will be watching and numbing your mind with it for at least 1 hour. I know this because it happened to me several times.

That’s why I urge you to be prepared (mentally) whenever you indulge in something negative, you must be able to break out of it any time you want, don’t let it consume you or you’ll become addicted to it.

And this doesn’t have to be something about migrants, it can be porn, or anything else that isn’t really productive or helping you in any way.

The key is to use this feature of your mind to your advantage instead of becoming addicted to a state of mind that is destructive, and without even realizing that you’re doing it.

Change of mind by staying positive

Authentic

One benefit of staying positive is to be able to communicate authentically, no matter how you feel. As I mentioned before you’ll feel negative at certain points of your life, but you have to realize that it shouldn’t stop you from being who you are.

If the negativity scares you and you have to bend and twist yourself in order to fit in then you’ll become afraid of bad emotions and wind up blowing them out of proportion.

A more positive outlook on everything

There is a pretty common mindset in people who are poor. They look down on the rich and successful people, and say things like, “Oh the elite doesn’t want me succeed they are manipulating me and holding me back, this rich, happy and successful guy is a jerk”

Which obviously is complete nonsense, these successful people write books for YOU to read you idiot, they share their secrets all the time in the form of a blog, book, podcast or videos.

All these poor excuses come from a negative mindset, and  a general negative outlook on the world. They focus on the bad so they interpret everything they see as bad. When you refuse to identify with people who are doing better than you, and you refuse to relate to their point of view, your mind turns off from learning what they’re doing

A mindset like that is a tremendous waste of time and energy. A better approach to life is to see the value in people, ignore what’s of no use, and reap the benefits that come with a positive mindset.

Of course there are dozens of benefits by staying positive, such as positive people live longer, they make better decisions in stress situations and so on, but that would make the best too long.

Conclusion

The world is whatever you think it is

Sometimes it’s shit, sometimes it’s great it all depends on what you experience right now and how you want to look at it. On one hand it’s great to be alive on the other hand some pretty bad shit is happening. It’s your choice on what you want to focus on.

Positivity is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you are positive, you bring more positive people into your life, you think better of people who give you the confidence to act better which gets people to act better around you. That’s how you create an Upward Spiral.

It’s up to you, and the choice is yours about how you want to live your life.
