Self-discovery and self-realization
What do we mean by self-discovery?
Well, self-discovery means finding oneself, recognizing who you really are and what your potential is.
In order to find oneself, it is necessary to deal with oneself, to listen in oneself and to pay attention to one’s feelings and thoughts. It is a process of self-knowledge and self-experience on a higher level, a deeper exploration of oneself.
Self-knowledge is the first step in self-discovery.
One can regard the process of self-discovery, quite as an adventure, as a journey to one’s own essence.
When we are ready to turn to our elemental inner world and embark on this journey, we can discover amazing things.
We have the opportunity to find our “true authentic self”. This “authentic self” is our essence. It’s what makes us what we really are.
Most people lead an alien, adjusted, norm-oriented life.
But a person who has penetrated to his essence and found himself is no longer the same as before. He lives his life self-determined. He has freed himself from foreign behavioral and thought patterns. He lives from his “inner self”.
Certainly, courage and self-esteem are needed because it is easier and more convenient to adapt and follow established paths.
But the easy way usually does not get us much further. On the contrary, it hinders us in our self-development.
Often, but not always, the trigger for the process of self-discovery is an emotional shock in one’s life.
A life crisis can be the cause of dealing more closely with oneself and one’s life. In life crises, the human being is often thrown back on himself (an example is the loss crisis of lovesickness). He is then forced to deal with this situation.
If he engages constructively, he has the opportunity to mature and evolve. That’s why people say, “there’s a chance in the crisis”. Thus, a life crisis can include a chance for self-discovery.
Self-discovery is a continuous process that is never completed because life and ourselves are constantly changing. A person practicing self-discovery always discovers new things and always learns to do so. He does not stand still but keeps evolving. It is a recognition at an ever higher level.
Every person has something special in them.
Self-discovery means to make the special visible in us.
Self-knowledge and self-discovery are the precursors to self-realization.
