Why do people become depressed?
Many people know the onerous feeling of seemingly groundless sadness, sadness or listlessness. If this feeling of sadness or melancholy occurs over a long period of time, this condition may last for several weeks to several years if not treated.
Sometimes we feel exhausted and tired from the hard work of everyday life, or discouraged when faced with serious problems. But this is not depression. These feelings usually go away within a few days or weeks. However, if these feelings of depression persist and begin to affect work, school, or family responsibilities, then it can be depression.
Various factors play a role
Depression is not usually caused by a single cause, but multiple factors such as genetics, the environment, life events, and certain ways of thinking that affect how a person responds to events play a role.
Research has shown that depression is more prevalent in some families, suggesting that some people have genetic traits that increase the likelihood of developing depression. But not everyone with a genetic predisposition to depression inevitably has to become depressed. And it also affects numerous people, without a family history of depression. So, although genetic factors play a role, these are not the only cause of depression .
Life events – loss pain
Life events – such as the death of a close family member or friend or other loss pain, such as heartache – can go beyond the normal level of grief and sometimes lead to depression.
Family – social environment – social circumstances
The family and the social environment also play a role. In some adolescents, the effects of a negative, stressful, or unfortunate family atmosphere can cause depression.
Social circumstances, such as unemployment, poverty, homelessness, and community violence can increase the likelihood that people will become depressed.
It should be noted that people who are depressed should not wait and hope that their depression will go by itself, because depression can be effectively treated today.
While depression is one of the most common emotional issues, the good news is that depression is also one of the treatable diseases.
